The owners of this house in an Albequerque subdivision wanted a carefree playroom addition where their kids could play ball and ride tricycles.

Quirk's design incorporated natural light with passive solar heat. The wall retains heat from the sun's rays to warm the space during the cold nights. Insulated shades help block heat loss at night.

Special feature: a rooftop deck cantilevered over the roof where the family enjoys New Mexico's spectacular sunsets.
