This 750-square-feet bundle of elegance proves that thoughtful design is more important than excess space for comfortable living for two.
The bamboo floor in the livingroom and bedroom is joined to a polished metal floor in the office area that provides elegance while allowing chairs and equipment to roll as needed. Floors in the kitchen and bathroom are a polished red concrete.
Special features: radiant floor heat, skylights, concrete countertops, and recessed cabinets. Future plans include a writing loft and floor-to-ceiling bookcases.
Originally built directly on the dirt and long neglected by all but invading animals, this cottage is tucked behind a larger city home. Quirk dug a basement and foundation and gutted the original interior. The remodeled cottage sits on the same footprint as before, but on a rat-proof concrete slab anchored to the foundation and ready to withstand Seattle's earthquakes.
